Virtus Training

St. Mary of the Assumption Parish and School as well as the Diocese of Cleveland hold the protection of children as one of their highest priorities. To this end, the Diocese of Cleveland adopted a Policy for the Safety of Children in Matters of Sexual Abuse in 2003 and updated it in 2007. This policy requires that education and training in the recognition and prevention of sexual abuse towards minor children be given to all Diocesan employees and to all volunteers who come in regular contact with children. This program is titled VIRTUS.

Anyone who volunteers in the school or parish program involving children (i.e. scouts) must be VIRTUS trained, fingerprinted and have a clean background check.

In addition to the live training session, volunteers are required read the Policy for the Protection of Children in Matters of Sexual Abuse – Rev 2007 and print, sign and submit the Policy for the Safety of Children Acknowledgement Form as well as read the Standards of Conduct for Ministry and sign the Standards of Conduct for Ministry Acknowledgement Form.  After completing the training, a bulletin will be posted to your VIRTUS account each month for you to read.  25 short online bulletins should be read and answered over a two year period. Please contact Ruthann Novogurski or Betty Taucher (440-255-9781) to attend a  VIRTUS training session or sign up at virtus.org.
