Welcome

It is a special joy for me to extend a warm welcome to you as you join the St. Mary of the Assumption parish family.

The parish church is in many ways the heart of the community and the heart of the neighborhood. A church building is the expression, in architectural terms, of a parish at prayer. It says that a religious community is present. It says that this place is committed to service. And, most importantly, it says that Jesus Christ is here in a special way.

As Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist is the center of our faith. It is in and through the Eucharist that we come to know the Jesus we are to proclaim, to be thankful for what we have, and to make a difference to people and to the world in which we live.

The people of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish are a Christian community rooted in the faith and tradition of the Catholic Church. As a Christ centered family, we draw upon God’s Word for direction and understanding as we journey in faith. We embody Jesus’ love and forgiveness to establish relationships with Him, each other and ourselves. Our personal and shared prayer and spirituality culminate in Eucharistic/Liturgical celebrations. It is during these times that we gather as one body to praise and give glory to our Creator and to proclaim the joy of life in Jesus as seen in each other.

We further recognize that each of us has been gifted by God with unique abilities and abundant resources that we contribute to the life of the parish and extended community by the living out of Christian charity, social justice and civic responsibility. Under the guidance of the Spirit we encourage and affirm this diversity that all share the responsibility of building up the Body of Christ.

Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish Family is people rich and spirit wealthy. The parish staff and I welcome you and wish the greatest of God’s blessing upon you as we strive to become the people and Church God wishes us to be.

Sincerely yours, Thomas G. Elsasser
Pastor
